Why is Isaiah pronouncing judgment on Israel in Isaiah 1?
Isaiah pronounces judgment on Israel because of all their sin and wickedness. Jerusalem, once a faithful, righteous city where the people obeyed the Mosaic Law, had become a harlot, full of murderers. The city that once was full of judgment and righteousness had turned to wickedness, as Isaiah 1:21-22 describes.
Les teaches that Isaiah comes down on the nation of Israel in Isaiah 1 because of all their sin and wickedness. In verse 21, Isaiah asks how the faithful city has become a harlot. Les identifies this as Jerusalem, which at one time had been a righteous city where the Jewish people were obedient to the Mosaic Law and the system. But they had become so wicked that the city once full of righteousness was now full of murderers, verse 22. Les also notes that the word translated corrupt in 2 Corinthians 2:17 is the same word found in Isaiah 1:22.
