Les Feldick Bible Study

What is Paul's main purpose in 2 Corinthians?

He writes 2 Corinthians primarily to defend his apostleship against snide remarks and attacks coming from Corinth. This follow-up letter comes after his first letter, which was largely reproof and correction, and he is heartbroken by the things being spoken against him.

Les teaches that Paul is following up his first letter, which was a letter of reproof and correction and not commendation for the most part. In 2 Corinthians, Paul is first and foremost defending his apostleship because of the snide remarks coming out of Corinth that were attacking the apostles. Les explains that Paul, like us, was heartbroken by some of the things being spoken about him. The study returns to 2 Corinthians chapter 2, continuing the line of thinking about the gentleman who caused so much grief in 1 Corinthians chapter 5.
