Why did the Jewish crowd gather to hear Peter preach in Acts 3?

The Jewish crowd gathered in Acts 3 because of the miracle that had happened to the lame man through Peter and John. Their amazement at his healing drew them together to hear Peter preach, and Peter then addressed them as men of Israel, pointing to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Les explains that in Acts 3 Peter is preaching to a massive crowd of Jews who had gathered because of the miracle that happened to the lame man through Peter and John. When Peter saw the amazement of all these Jews, he answered them as men of Israel, asking why they marveled or looked so earnestly on them as though by their own power or holiness they had made the man walk. He pointed them to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who had glorified His son Jesus, whom they had delivered up and killed, but whom God raised from the dead. Les notes that this meant everything to the Jews, though Gentiles would not have cared about Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He also observes that Peter never associates salvation with Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection; Peter claims Jesus was the Christ, they crucified Him, but God raised Him from the dead, and He could still fulfill all those Old Testament promises because He was alive.
