Why was it important that the saints in Matthew 27 rose after Jesus' resurrection and not before?

It was important because Christ had to be the firstfruits of resurrection. If the saints had come out of their graves before His resurrection, it would have disrupted God's plan and order. Their rising after His resurrection kept Christ first in resurrection, preserving the divine pattern.

Les teaches that this detail is important because Christ must be the firstfruits of resurrection. At the crucifixion, the veil was rent, the earth quaked, and the rocks rent. Then in Matthew 27:52, graves in the Jerusalem area were opened, and many bodies of the saints came out. The saints are believers of any age; here they were Jewish believers buried around Jerusalem. They came out of the graves after His resurrection. Les explains that if they had come out before Christ was resurrected, it would throw a kilter in the whole plan of God that Christ was the firstfruits of resurrection.

Matthew 27:53

And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

1 Corinthians 15:20

But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

1 Corinthians 15:23

But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
