Why was Jesus delivered up to be crucified?

Jesus was delivered up to be crucified by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God. This was not an accident but the fulfillment of a predetermined agreement within the Godhead, decided in eternity past, so that God's purpose to create man with free will and bring all things to consummation could be accomplished.

Les explains that Acts 2:22-23 shows Jesus was 'delivered up' by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God. He emphasizes that this counsel, or agreement of ideas, took place in eternity past—perhaps billions of years ago—when the Godhead determined to create Earth for habitation, place man on it with a free will to respond to God's love or reject it, and ultimately bring everything to consummation. Thus the crucifixion was not a random event but the outworking of God's predetermined plan.
