What does Ephesians 2:1 say God did for those dead in trespasses and sins?

Ephesians 2:1 declares that God quickened, or made alive, those who were dead in trespasses and sins. The verse states, "And you he hath quickened, or made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins." This describes God's action of giving spiritual life.

Les teaches that Ephesians 2:1 is another great "but"—a flip side. Paul writes to Gentile believers in Ephesus, believers who were quite a bit above and beyond the carnal believers in Corinth, and he never finds real fault with them. He says, "And you he hath quickened, or made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, wherein in times past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the air, the spirit that now worketh." In other words, they had been followers after the God of this world, Satan, but God made them alive.
