Why does the world think believers are kooks for avoiding worldly pleasures?
The world views believers as kooks because it cannot comprehend the glory awaiting the believer. It sees only the temporary shunning of worldly pleasures for a few years and has no concept of the ratio between 70 years and unlimited billions of years. That incomparable eternal prospect is what they cannot grasp.
Les explains that the believer has a glory awaiting him, and the world now thinks believers are a bunch of kooks because they shun some of the pleasures of this world for a few years. The world has no concept of the ratio, because 70 years cannot be compared to unlimited billions of years; it cannot even be put into a mathematical ratio. This is what they cannot comprehend. Paul then speaks of that which prepares us for that kind of eternity through the Gospel he preached: Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, not by accident, but according to God's foreknowledge and counsel, as Peter says in Acts chapter 2.
