What should believers desire according to 1 Corinthians 14:39?

Believers should desire to prophesy—to speak forth the Word—because the printed Word had not yet come. They should also not forbid speaking in languages, a commandment from the Lord. This instruction is given to the brethren in the local congregation.

Les explains that in 1 Corinthians 14:39 Paul told the brethren to covet or desire to prophesy, which meant to speak forth the Word, because the printed Word had not yet come. Paul also said not to forbid speaking in these languages, and Les notes this is a commandment from the Lord Himself not to forbid the use of languages. Les then connects verse 40, urging that all things in the local congregation be done decently and in order, because this brings honor and glory to God. He laments that many take these things out of context and forget that the primary purpose of all we do is to bring honor and glory to God.

1 Corinthians 14:39
