Why are there no apostles in the Church today?

Apostles are not in the Church today because they faded off the scene after the Apostolic Age ended. They were gifted men given to the early Church, but their role ceased. Once the Word came into print, there was no longer a need for gifted men to speak forth the Word.

Les teaches from Ephesians 4 that Christ gave gifted men to the Church: some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. He explains that the apostles faded off the scene after the Apostolic Age ended, and therefore we do not have apostles in the Church today. The prophets also faded away because we now have the printed Word. Once the Word came into print, there was no longer a need for gifted men to speak forth the Word, although Paul still lists them in Ephesians. Today, the gifts include evangelists, pastors, and teachers.
