What did Judas do with the silver and himself after betraying Jesus?

After betraying innocent blood, Judas cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, departed, and hanged himself. Scripture records that he admitted the betrayal to the chief priest, then threw the silver down rather than keep it, left the temple, and took his own life by hanging.

Les teaches that Judas went to the chief priest and admitted he had betrayed innocent blood. Then, in verse 5, Judas cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, departed, and hanged himself. Les connects this to Deuteronomy 21, where a man hanged on a tree is accursed of God and must be buried that same day. He explains that the Jews knew this verse, which is why they hurried to get Jesus off the cross.

Matthew 27:5

And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
