Were the Corinthians saved even though their behavior was bad?
Yes. The Corinthians were already saved despite their behavior; they were believers. Their failure to properly practice the Lord’s table did not affect their salvation. The Lord’s Supper has nothing to do with salvation, and Paul explains its purpose for the church program separately.
Les explains that the Lord’s Supper, or communion table, has nothing to do with the salvation of these Corinthians. They were already saved in spite of their behavior; they were saved and were believers. Their lack of practice of the Lord’s table had nothing to do with their salvation. Paul then delineates the reason and purpose for the Lord’s table in the church program. He says, “For I have received of the Lord,” and Les notes Paul did not get it from the Twelve in Jerusalem, some seminary, or a denominational bigwig.
