Why does Paul tell the Corinthians to follow his instructions in 1 Corinthians 11:2?
Paul instructed them to keep what he had delivered because he was the apostle of the Gentiles, and this was a predominantly Gentile congregation. He had gone first to the Jew, then to the Gentiles, so they should follow his apostolic teaching.
Les explains that in 1 Corinthians 11:2 Paul says, "keep the things that I have delivered, as I have delivered them to you." In other words, go by what I have instructed, because he was the apostle of the Gentiles, and this was a predominantly Gentile congregation. Les notes Paul always went first to the Jew, then to the Gentiles, so early congregations had a smattering of Jewish believers. The coming verses deal with women in the Church and coverings, which Les says are far removed from us today and affected by customs and environment, though the Word of God does not change.
Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
