How did Paul go into pagan cities to preach the Gospel?

Paul entered pagan cities to preach the Gospel with fear and trembling, not with a bold facade. He did not know what response he would receive, yet he went anyway, driven by the same desire to see people come to salvation. His example shows believers must follow him in taking the Gospel to a belligerent world despite fear.

Les explains that Paul went into strange pagan cities not with boldness or a facade that showed no fear. He trembled in his boots just like we would, not knowing what kind of response he would get. But he went anyway, and that is what we have to do. Les notes it is a fearsome thing to take the Gospel out to a belligerent world, yet Paul's example means we should be followers of him, burning with the same desire to see more people come to a knowledge of salvation. The Holy Spirit prompted Paul to tell the believing world to follow him rather than Jesus because he was of the same human make-up, with the same failures, weaknesses, and fears.

Philippians 3:17

Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
