What is the overall subject of the book of 1 Corinthians?

First Corinthians deals basically with the problems that were besetting the Corinthian church. These included their practice of the Lord's Table, eating meats offered to idols, and believers going to law against one another in pagan courts. Paul addresses these congregational issues throughout the letter.

Les teaches that the whole book of I Corinthians deals basically with problems that were besetting the Corinthians church. He points out that the Corinthians had made the Lord's Table, or communion service, a problem, with things going on that should never have taken place in the church, so Paul had to address it. They also faced the issue of eating meats offered to idols, which believers today are not up against in the same way. Earlier, they were going to law with one another, suing each other in pagan courts, and Paul says that is not the way believers do things. Thus the letter addresses these congregational problems.
