Where is the first instance of the Lord's Supper being practiced?
The first instance of practicing the Lord’s Supper—the cup and the broken bread—is the Lord’s upper room experience. That is where the Lord’s table was first instituted, before Paul later writes of the cup of blessing and the bread we break in 1 Corinthians 10.
Les explains that in 1 Corinthians 10, Paul shifts gears and suddenly takes us to the Lord’s communion table. Paul speaks of the cup of blessing which we bless as the communion of the blood of Christ, and the bread which we break as the communion of the body of Christ. Les then pauses to ask where the first instance is of presenting the cup—wine, grape juice, or whatever a church uses—and where the wine and broken bread were first practiced. The answer he gives is the Lord’s upper room experience.
