How can sinners be justified if all have sinned and fallen short?

Because all have sinned and come short of God's glory, every person is separated and cannot meet His standard. Yet sinners are not left hopeless: verse 24 says they can be justified freely by His grace through the redemption—the buying back—that is in Christ Jesus.

Les explains that Romans 3:23 says every human being has sinned and come short of the glory of God, so in his natural state he is separated from God and cannot meet God's standard. But the next verse shows we are not left in hopelessness: even though all have sinned, we can be justified freely by His grace through the redemption, or buying back, that is in Christ Jesus. Les connects this to the Israelites in Egypt, who rested on the blood of the lamb on the door, and says that is what we as Gentiles in this Age of Grace rest on. He also notes that Scripture continually teaches the idea of something owned and then lost, or hopped, as with Israel: God's covenant people went down to Egypt through the brothers' sin, and God lost them, so He had to buy them back. Exodus is the book of redemption, and He bought them back through the blood of the Passover lamb. Les says it is the same way with us today.
