Were we purchased with the Old Testament sacrifices or with the blood of Christ?

We were not purchased with the Old Testament sacrifices, the traditions of Judaism, or corruptible things like silver and gold. Scripture says believers were bought with a price: the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish and without spot, ordained before the foundation of the world.

Les explains that Peter, a Jew writing to Jews, is speaking about the traditions of Judaism and the Old Testament economy. Peter says they were not redeemed with corruptible things such as silver and gold, nor from the vain conversation received by tradition from the fathers. Rather, they were purchased with the precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot, who was ordained before the foundation of the world and manifest in these last times for them. Les connects this to Paul’s statement that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and that believers are not their own because they were bought with a price. He then cites Hebrews to show that without the shedding of blood there is no remission. The redemption price is therefore not the Old Testament sacrifices, but the blood of Christ.
