Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does Paul say a believer has no right to be united with a harlot?

Paul says a believer has no right because the believer is a child of God and a member of the Body of Christ, joined to the Lord as one spirit. Being united with a harlot contradicts that identity and goes outside God's bounds for sexuality.

Les explains that Paul was almost crying as he asked the Corinthians, 'don't you know that you have no right as a believer, as a child of God, as a member of the Body of Christ, to be unioned with a harlot?' Les clarifies this is not limited to a professional prostitute; any time a believer goes outside God's bounds for sexuality, it becomes the same thing. Paul then adds that he who is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Les always clarifies that the groom and bride marriage relationship is positional, not sexual, because that is going to pass off the scene. Paul also uses the marriage relationship analogy in Romans chapter 7, verse 4.

1 Corinthians 6:15

Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
