What kind of church was the church of Corinth?

The church of Corinth was a local congregation of born-again believers who had been brought out of paganism and turned from their idols, yet they were plagued with problems and internal disputes, making them lesson material for every local congregation.

Les explains that this little church of Corinth was made up of born-again people who had been brought out of paganism and had turned their back on their idols, yet they were plagued with problems. He points out that they are in this book because we have the same problems today, making it tremendous lesson material for every local congregation. For example, they had gotten into a real wrangle with fellow church members and were going to lawyers and courts instead of taking matters to the local church body, pastor, elders, or deacons. Paul says don't go to the world's lawyers and courts with your problem but keep it within the confines of believers, though there may be a point where you have to go to the world's judicial system.
