What should the church do with a member who refuses to repent of sin?
The church should first deal with the member in a spirit of meekness, helping them recognize and confess the sin and gain victory over it. If the person refuses and will not, Paul says to put that wicked person away from among the congregation, setting them aside until they come to their senses.
Les teaches that the church should not simply condemn the person and say, “so be it.” Instead, it should go in a spirit of meekness, not pride, remembering that any believer could be tempted and fall into the same trap. The goal is to bear one another’s burdens, encourage the weak, and help them overcome, because there is no need to be a Christian failure or to constantly live in sin. After dealing with them and trying to get them to recognize their sin, confess it, and get victory over it, if they refuse and will not, Paul says to put them aside until they come to their senses.
But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
