Les Feldick Bible Study

How does the average church today react when someone falls into a gross sin?

The average church today reacts to someone falling into gross sin by making light of it, joking about it, and laughing about it. Rather than being burdened and prayerful, they treat it as a matter for humor, which should never be the mindset of a believer.

Les explains that in Galatians 6:1, Paul addresses brethren—believers, both men and women—instructing that if a man is overtaken in a fault, a rather gross sin, those who are spiritual, as the church leadership, should restore such a one. But the average church today, Les observes, makes light of it, jokes about it, and laughs about it, asking, "Hey, have you heard?" That should never be the idea or mindset of a believer. Instead, when we hear of a Christian who has fallen into sin, it should break our heart; we should be burdened and pray for that person. And if you're in a place of church authority or leadership, regardless of denomination, it's your responsibility to go to that person and do all you can to restore them into fellowship.

Galatians 6:1

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
