What is the biblical remedy for sin in the church according to 1 Corinthians 5?

The remedy is for the church to confront the offender as a body of believers, not ignore the sin. Paul says they must deal with gross immorality or covetousness, gathering together in the name of the Lord Jesus to judge the deed and take action.

Les explains that Paul would not let the matter slide. Although absent in body, Paul was present in spirit and had already judged the one who did this deed. Les says Paul told the Corinthians there was no room for argument; they had to deal with it. The remedy is corporate: take the couple, confront them with it as a body of believers, and in the name of the Lord Jesus, when gathered together, address the sin. Les notes this applies to gross immorality or gross covetousness in local churches, and the church must not just turn its eyes away.
