Does the Bible say people naturally hate their own bodies?

The Bible indicates people do not naturally hate their own bodies. Scripture states that no man ever hated his own flesh; instead, the normal response is to nourish and cherish it, just as the Lord cherishes the church. The body is also the temple of the Holy Spirit and should be cared for, not abused.

Les explains that deep down in the subconscious, no man hates himself and no man ever hated his own flesh. The normal thing is to nourish and cherish the body, even as the Lord cherishes the church. He calls this a basic fundamental premise: if a person is normal and has the right attitude toward life, he will take care of his physical body. The spiritual admonition coming back to 1 Corinthians 3 adds that the body is not merely physical; it is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit and the temple of God on this earth. Therefore believers are to treat it accordingly—feed it right, rest it right, and not abuse it.
