Why do normal people take care of their physical bodies?

Normal people care for their physical bodies because no one ever hated his own flesh; the normal instinct is to nourish and cherish it. Scripture adds that the body is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit and the temple of God, so it should be fed, rested, and not abused.

Les teaches that even down in the subconscious, no man hates his own flesh. The normal thing for a person to do is to nourish and cherish his physical body, even as the Lord cherishes the church. He presents this as a basic fundamental premise: if you are normal and have the right attitude toward life, you will take care of your physical body. Then comes the spiritual admonition, coming back to 1 Corinthians 3: it is not just your physical body, but the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. It is the temple of God on this earth, and we are to treat it accordingly—feed it right, rest it right, and not abuse it. Paul then warns, “Let no man deceive himself,” because people are surrounded by deception, including advertisers who can make harmful things look like a great deal.
