Is the doctrine of God dwelling in the believer found anywhere other than Paul?
No. The doctrine that God Himself dwells in the believer’s body is presented as a completely new doctrine in Scripture. It is not found in the Old Testament, nor taught by Jesus, nor by Peter. Only Paul teaches it, and it must be accepted by faith because the Book says He is there.
Les explains that in verse 16 Paul introduces a completely new doctrine in Scripture, tied to the believer’s lifestyle that merits reward or lack of reward. He notes that this doctrine is not found in the Old Testament, not taught by Jesus, and not taught by Peter—only Paul. The doctrine is that God Himself is dwelling in this body. It must be taken by faith, because you do not feel Him move in or move around in you, but He is there because the Book says He is. Even the carnal Corinthians were temples of the living God.
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
