Why is the Christian life a constant battle, and how can we still make it?

It remains a constant battle because believers are up against all the forces of Satan and all the designs of the world around them. Yet God has promised they can do it, so they keep working to further His work and gain reward, remembering that He looks at the motivation.

Les explains that the Christian life is like paddling a canoe up a roaring river—it is pretty near impossible and never easy. It is a constant battle because we are up against all the forces of Satan and all the designs of the world around us, but God has promised that we can do it. The goal is to gain reward when we come before the Bema Seat. Because salvation is secure, we are not to sit down and get lazy; we are to work to further God's work among the human race and gain reward. Les stresses that God looks at motivation: why we do what we do. If it is done to please God and bring glory to Him, it is reckoned as gold, silver, and precious stones; if it enhances the ego, it ends up as wood, hay, and stubble. Even carnal believers are admonished that reward is out there for them, so never give up saying they can never attain it.
