How does the temperate balance apply to running a business?

In business, temperance means maintaining a middle balance rather than extremes. A man overstocked with inventory may fail, while bare shelves and no stock also drive customers away. The same temperate balance required in the Christian life applies to business: avoid excess and deficiency.

Les explains that being temperate means maintaining a balance—you do not go clear off to the right or clear off to the left, but you maintain a middle balance. He applies this directly to business: a man covered up with inventory, who does not even know where things are, will not be in business very long. On the other hand, a man whose shelves are bare and who has to say he does not have an item but will order it is also not going to be in business very long. So the temperate balance must be maintained in business, just as it is in running the Christian life.
