Are all people equally vile sinners in God's sight?

All people are equally vile sinners in God's sight. Even those who have not persecuted or killed are just as great sinners as Saul of Tarsus. Every person is a sinner, just as vile in God's sight, as Paul writes, 'such were some of you, and such were some of us.'

Les explains that although God saved Saul by grace, the verse does not imply Saul was the worst, most wicked, or most vile sinner. Rather, Saul is the head of a line of sinners who would be saved like he was. Les notes that even though he may never have persecuted someone or put people to death, he was just as great a sinner in God's sight as Saul of Tarsus, and so were you. Every one of us were sinners, just as vile in God's sight, because the picture in Romans 1 and Corinthians is not pretty at all. Paul says, 'such were some of you, and such were some of us.' But the chief, the most prestigious, the head of the line was saved first, and now we come down through the ages. Les observes that commentaries often skip verses like this, but he must teach it as it thrilled his heart.
