Why did some of the Corinthians stick with Paul rather than Apollos?

Some Corinthians stuck with Paul because he was the one who had brought them out of their idolatry and immorality; naturally they felt adherence to him. There were no doctrinal differences between Paul and Apollos, only personalities, and Paul's converts came through the Holy Spirit's working.

Les explains that some in Corinth naturally adhered to Paul because Paul was the one who brought them out of idolatry and immorality. There were no doctrinal differences between Paul and Apollos—the division was over personalities. Paul did not draw people by appearance or speech; he gained converts strictly through the Holy Spirit's working. Apollos, by contrast, had magnetism and charisma, and a group followed him, wanting little to do with Paul. Les warns that churches can fall apart when a pastor leaves because people become loyal to a man instead of the Word of God and Christ.
