Why is it wrong for a church to fall apart when a pastor leaves?
A church falls apart when a pastor leaves because its loyalty was to the man instead of to the Word of God and the Christ whom they worship. Believers are not to hang their hearts on a man, but to center on God's Word and on Christ.
Les explains that the division in Corinth was not doctrinal but based on personalities. Paul did not draw people by appearance or speech; he gained converts through the working of the Holy Spirit, while Apollos had magnetism and charisma. Some believers adhered to Paul because he brought them out of idolatry and immorality; others followed Apollos. Les says people still do the same today, and he has seen churches totally fall apart when a pastor leaves. He says that is not right, because the church has been loyal to the man instead of to the Word of God and the Christ whom they worship. The believer should not put his eyes or hang his heart on a man, but center on the Word of God and on Christ.
