How big was the church at Corinth that Paul wrote to?

The church at Corinth was small, likely about 50 people. It met in the house of Chloe, so it was small enough to gather in a home. They were not up in the hundreds or thousands like many churches today. Even that small congregation had divisions among its members.

Les explains that the Corinthian believers were for the most part believers, but they were carnal, still fleshly, and not growing as Paul expected. Their carnality showed in divisions; they had pet people they wanted to follow. Les notes that congregations then were not up in the hundreds and thousands like we often think of churches today. He would not guess over 50, about 50 people, because the church met in the house of Chloe. He does not know how rich Chloe was or how big her home was, but it was small enough for them to meet in a home. Yet even in that little congregation there were divisions.

1 Corinthians 1:11

For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
