Are Christians today in the same condition as the carnal Corinthians?

Yes, many professing Christians today are in the same condition as the carnal Corinthians. They remain on the milk of the Word, unable to handle the meat of Scripture or deeper doctrinal truths, still babes in Christ and controlled by the flesh rather than the Holy Spirit.

Les explains that Paul had fed the Corinthians spiritual milk, not strong meat, because they could not bear it. They had been saved a year or two but had not grown; they were still babes in Christ. Les then applies this to today, asking how many professing Christians are in the same state. They have nothing they can handle of the meat of Scripture; they are not ready for it but remain on the milk of the Word. He calls it a sad commentary today as it was then. The word carnal refers to believers still controlled by the flesh rather than by the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 3:2

I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
