What was the Corinthians' bickering centered on?

Their bickering centered on individual men and rival factions: those following Paul, Apollos, Peter, and Jesus Himself. This produced havoc, disunity, and inability to get anything done in the church. The underlying problem was attaching loyalty to a human leader rather than to the Word of God and the crucified, risen Christ.

Les explains that the Corinthian church had four parties—Paul, Apollos, Peter, and Jesus—and this division wreaked havoc because there was no unity. Their constant bickering was all centered on an individual man. He applies it by asking how many churches today have the same problem, and he urges believers not to set their eyes on the man but on the Word of God and on the crucified One who died and rose again.
