Les Feldick Bible Study

What is the first question to ask when reading a Bible passage?

When reading any Bible passage, the first question to ask is, 'To whom was this addressed?' This principle was passed on as a foundational rule for interpreting Scripture, directing the reader to identify the original audience before applying the text.

Les explains that years ago, soon after he and Iris were married, he asked a respected preacher a question. That man, a tremendous preacher with a great voice, delivery, and knowledge of the Scriptures, gave him the principle he has passed on over and over: whenever you read something in the Scriptures, always ask first, 'To whom was this addressed?' This rule helps identify the original audience before applying the passage.
