Why does man think God is foolish?

Man considers God foolish because God says He can save a person from the most utter, gutter-type existence and make him a saint. That claim is foolishness to mankind, for it is contrary to human wisdom, which cannot grasp how such a transformation could occur.

Les explains that the foolishness of God is only foolishness in man's eyes. In 1 Corinthians 1:25, Paul addresses why man thinks God is foolish: God says He can save a person from the most utter, gutter-type existence and make him a saint. That is foolishness to mankind because it is contrary to human wisdom. Les notes that the main theme of 1 Corinthians is wisdom—the wisdom of God set apart from the wisdom of men. Earthly wisdom does not make us something God can use; only the wisdom from God does. Yet God uses the preaching of Christ crucified, which the world considers foolish, to save those who are called, both Jews and Greeks. To believers, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

1 Corinthians 1:25

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
