Who were the Corinthians that Paul was writing to?

They were recently converted believers out of paganism who remained carnal, still carrying hang-ups from immoral practices and generational habits they found hard to break. Though beset with problems and moral weaknesses, Paul addresses them as believers in grace, waiting for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Les teaches that the Corinthians were carnal Christians, the very opposite of mature spiritual Christians. They had been recently converted out of paganism but still had hang-ups with immoral practices—things they really did not think were wrong because their families and generations before them had done them, so it was hard to break from the past. In spite of all their hang-ups and problems, they were in grace and came behind in no gift. All the gifts God was ready to give were just as available to these carnal Corinthians as to the more spiritual Philippians. In spite of their carnality and moral weaknesses, Paul says they were waiting for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
