Had the Gospels been written yet when Paul wrote his epistles?

Les explains that as Paul wrote his epistles, the Gospels had not even been written yet, and they certainly had not come together as Scripture. So when Paul referred to Scripture or things written aforetime, he meant the Old Testament. Les says all things written in the Old Testament are written for our learning. He clarifies he never said people should not read the Gospels or the Old Testament; everything written before Paul wrote is for the believer's learning, and he says the same about the Gospels. Although there is not Church doctrine in the Gospels, that does not mean they should not be studied or applied. As an illustration, Jesus told the twelve they were the light of the world, like a city on a hill, an application now belonging to believers because Israel rejected that opportunity.
