Les Feldick Bible Study

How are believers supposed to receive someone who is weak in the faith?

Believers are to receive the one weak in the faith into their fellowship, but not to doubtful disputation. They should not bring him in to cause arguments over disputable matters, such as eating meat that may have been offered to idols. The weak believer is to be accepted without contentious debate.

Les teaches that chapter 14 addresses disputes between believers. In Paul’s day, a major issue was eating meat offered to idols. Paul says to receive the weak in faith into fellowship, but not to doubtful disputation. Les explains this means don't bring the weak believer in and let him cause a lot of argument because he sees you eating meat bought at the marketplace that probably came from the temple, and he won't touch it. Don't get into a big argument over it. The weak person may eat only herbs, becoming a vegetarian. Les notes that even Elijah was fed by ravens with herbs and veggies and meat.

Romans 14:1

Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
