Who actually performs the transformation from sinner to saint?

God Himself performs the transformation from sinner to saint. He causes the metamorphosis, transfiguring a hell-bound sinner into a heaven-bound saint. We can do nothing; God moves in and performs the miracle of salvation, recreating within us a new mind, will, and emotion.

Les explains that God is the One who causes the metamorphosis. He transfigures the hell-bound sinner into a heaven-bound saint. It is not something we can accomplish; we stand before a holy God unable to move. God moves in, just as He did for Israel at the Red Sea when He told them to stand still and do nothing. Likewise, the unbeliever can do nothing until God performs the miracle of salvation, creating a whole new mind, will, and emotion. The personality must be totally recreated, and old Adam must die with all its worldly concerns. In his place, God by a miraculous work gives us that transformed mind.

Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

We can do nothing to save or transform ourselves; all we can do is stand naked before a Holy God and admit we cannot even move from where we are.
