Why do we need to repeatedly read and believe Romans 8:35-39?

Romans 8:35-39 must be repeatedly read and believed because its truths are beyond human comprehension. The passage declares that tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword cannot separate believers from Christ's love; in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Les explains that Romans 8 is the tremendous chapter of our great salvation, which is not based on what we have done but on what Christ has done on our behalf. He says verses 35-39 are so beyond human comprehension that we have to read them again and again and believe them again and again. The passage asks who shall separate us from the love of Christ—tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword? It notes that as it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long and accounted as sheep for the slaughter, which reflects the world's attitude toward the believer since the beginning, even in the Old Testament economy. Les points out that pagan peoples hated Israel because of Israel's relationship with their Creator God, and that has not changed. Then verse 37 says, Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Verse 38 begins the apostle's words, which should be our words, 'for I am persuaded,' and Les notes that the Greek word persuaded is much stronger than merely finally consenting to something.
