What is the story of the book of Judges?

The book of Judges recounts a nation on a spiritual roller coaster. Under a righteous judge, Israel rose to a spiritual high; when that judge died, the nation fell into sin and rejection. God raised up another judge, bringing blessing and victory, but the cycle of ups and downs continued. God chastised them yet never gave up.

Les explains that the book of Judges is a story of a nation on a roller coaster. Israel would go up to a spiritual high under a righteous, holy judge. When that judge died, the nation would go down into the depths of sin and rejection. God would then raise up another good judge, and the people would come back, be blessed, and be victorious over their enemies. Then they would go down again—up and down repeatedly. Les points out that God did chastise them, but He never gave up on them.
