Les Feldick Bible Study

Who are the modern equivalents of the man in the field in Matthew 24:18?

The modern equivalents are working-age, working-class people such as computer operators, office workers, and stockbrokers. In Christ's day Israel was agrarian, so the man in the field represents laborers. Today, whatever their work, they must drop it and flee quickly, not returning for clothes.

Les explains that verse 18 addresses the working age and working class, not the retired wealthy on the housetop. In Christ's day, Israel was an agrarian nation, so the man in the field was a laborer. Today, Les suggests the equivalent would be computer operators, office workers, stockbrokers, and similar occupations. Whatever their work, they must drop it and get out fast, without even going back for an extra suit of clothes. This is part of a cross-section of Jewish society fleeing Jerusalem when the Antichrist defiles the temple and turns on the Jew.

Matthew 24:18

Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
