Was the mystery of Christ revealed in the Old Testament?

No. The mystery of Christ was not made known in past generations, including the Old Testament era. Paul now reveals that Gentiles are fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ by His finished work, not by Judaism or the Mosaic law.

Les explains that Paul’s readers could understand his knowledge in the mystery of Christ, or the secret. In verse five, this mystery was not made known in other ages or past generations, which takes it all the way back to the Old Testament. These things Paul is now revealing were never made known before, and the language makes that doubly sure. It was not made known to the sons of men as it is now revealed. Les then focuses on the part of the mystery in Ephesians three: the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ, not by Judaism or the Mosaic law, but by Christ and His finished work. Les asks whether anyone ever read in the Old Testament that Gentiles would become one with Christ or with God, noting they did not understand Christ as much back there, and that this truth was unheard of.
