Did God have the Gentiles on His mind in the mystery?
God did have the Gentiles on His mind in the mystery. The revelation shows Gentiles becoming fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of promise with Israel, brought into a privileged position with Israel’s God in the body of Christ, though under different circumstances than previously seen.
Les explains that the Jews had no concept of this and would have thrown up their hands in horror if such a subject had been approached. Yet God had the Gentiles on His mind, and believers should never lose sight of that, though it was under a whole different set of circumstances than what was being seen there. The mystery reveals that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of promise. Paul was made a minister of this revealing according to the gift of God's grace by the effectual work of His power. The mystery had been hid in God from the beginning of the world or the age; the sovereign God has the prerogative to keep things secret if He wants to. Paul was to make all men see the fellowship of the mystery, not just Israel or Gentiles but the whole human race. In Colossians, Les points out another aspect: Israel will be spiritually blinded for almost two thousand years, and the Gentiles will come into a privileged position with Israel's God in the form of the body of Christ. The context then moves to Colossians chapter 1, verses 25 and 26.
