What does Paul say believers should be as a people?
Paul says believers should be a well-taught people, not untaught or ignorant. They should be well read in the Scriptures so they know what they believe, rather than being unable to explain their faith. The church has often failed by not teaching its people.
Les teaches that Paul is driving home the point that believers are to be a well-taught people. Les laments that the church, generally speaking, has failed miserably because it has not taught its people. He illustrates this by saying you can ask the average Roman Catholic, Episcopalian, Baptist, or Methodist what they believe, and most cannot tell you, because nobody teaches them. Paul does not want believers to be untaught or ignorant, especially concerning the mystery—the secret God kept in His own mind until He revealed it to the Apostle Paul. Believers should be well read in the Scriptures.
