Les Feldick Bible Study

Why should Gentile believers fear instead of being high-minded toward Israel?

Gentile believers should fear because God did not spare the natural branches when they rejected His offer, and He will likewise break off the Gentiles if they reject His grace and blessings. Fear guards against high-mindedness, acknowledging God's severity toward failure and His goodness, while He remains faithful to restore Israel.

Les explains that Paul warns Gentiles not to be high minded but to fear. If God did not spare the natural branches, the good tree, then He will not spare the no good tree either. Take heed lest He also spare not thee. Behold the goodness and severity of God: severity on Israel, who failed because they rejected so much after God had offered them so much. The lesson is that Gentiles are fast approaching the same place where God will finally get fed up with the Gentile world system, which rejects His offer of grace, His blessings, and believing who He is. God will do the same thing: He will break off the Gentile. When He is through with the Gentile, He will put back the Jew. This shows God is not through with Israel; He will yet fulfill all the promises made to Abraham. Gentiles were fortunate that in the interim, while Israel was blinded, they were brought into the place of blessing.
