Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does God say Israel should not join the European common market or compete with the Gentile nations?

God says no because Israel is to remain a separated people, not join the European common market, compete with Gentile nations, or become just another member of the family of nations. Such assimilation digs them deeper into a hole and backs them into a corner, leaving no hope except the coming of their king.

Les explains that Israel’s desire to mesh its economy with the European common market and compete with the Gentile nations is contrary to God’s calling. God says, "No, you are a separated people," yet Israel has not learned that lesson. As they try to assimilate and become just another member of the family of nations, they dig a deeper hole and get backed into a corner. Eventually Israel will have no hope except the coming of their king. Les also notes they will first accept a false king, the Antichrist, because many expect a superman with military, economic, and charismatic credentials. Meanwhile, Israel’s fullness and the Old Testament covenant promises are still coming; God has not forgotten them.
