How did the Gentiles react to the Jews opposing their salvation?
The Gentiles eagerly embraced salvation and were thrilled by it when Paul preached. However, as Jews became the chief opponents of Gentiles being saved, the Gentiles reacted by beginning to hate the Jews in return, illustrating human nature operating contrary to God's will.
Les explains that in Acts, wherever Paul preached and the Jews rejected the Gospel, pagan Gentiles responded with a spiritual hunger Israel could not comprehend. They would swarm to the Gospel, embrace it, and be thrilled by it. The Jews then hated them and became the chief opponents of Christianity. But as Jews opposed Gentiles being saved, in time the Gentiles began to hate the Jews. Les says this shows human nature going contrary to the will of God. He compares it to high school dating: when a couple falls out, one dates somebody else to promote jealousy. God similarly turned to the Gentile so Israel would get jealous and wake up.
