What did God tell Saul about his mission before he left Damascus?

God told Saul, before he even got out of Damascus, that He would send him far hence to the Gentiles. This upfront revelation showed Saul's mission would go to the pagan Gentiles, not to Israel, who was entering spiritual blindness.

Les teaches that God told Saul right up front, before he even got out of Damascus, that He was going to send him far hence to the Gentiles. Israel was going to go out into a spiritual blindness, but Saul was going to go to the Gentiles. This was because Israel rejected all of those Old Testament promises, rejected her Messiah and King, and crucified Him. What they really did was open up the windows of heaven for us Gentiles, whose forefathers were pagan. Every one of us, if we could follow our family tree all the way back, would find that every one of our ancestors were steeped in idolatry, the occult, mythology, or whatever. Israel alone had the true knowledge of the true God. But God now has done something totally different, and He sent this apostle out amongst those pagan Gentiles, and they suddenly began to almost swarm to the Gospel. They had a spiritual hunger that Israel could not.
