What did the Jews of Christ's day want besides dealing with their sin?

At Christ's first coming, the Jews wanted the promised King and Kingdom, a glorious utopia where Israel would be preeminent, Romans removed from Jerusalem, and Messiah would bring peace and prosperity. They rejected the Savior because receiving Him meant confronting their sin, which they refused to do.

Les explains that Israel had two prospects: the promise of a King and a Kingdom, and the need for sins to be dealt with. At the time of Christ's first coming, they wanted the King and the Kingdom, not the Savior, because coming to the Savior would force them to deal with their sin. They wanted the Romans out of Jerusalem, and they wanted the peace and prosperity that a Messiah would bring. Les compares this to America today: people want a glorious utopia, peace, and prosperity, but they do not want any part of dealing with their sin problem.
